Providing comfort techniques as a Doula to a Mama having a non-medicated hospital birth!

If you are early in your pregnancy, getting ready to birth, or have just had your bundle of joy–you are at the right place. The Nesting Stage is all about preparation, education, and relationships. We have built our services around the idea of building a tangible relationship with our clients, so we understand that it takes more than one or two visits before birth to actually solidify a true connection between a birth worker and a client-this is why we provide more visits before birth. The Nesting Stage honors a mother’s trust as a delicate gift and when given, it allows the mother to feel safe during her birth. Our I. -S.E.E model (Inspire, Support, Educate, and Empower) ensures the best service to our clients. What are you waiting for? Book a free consultation to get all of your questions answered!

When I first met Joy I was in a tough headspace filled with so many thoughts and emotions about everything from health conerns explained to me by my doctors to unwarranted comments told to me by my family. Then there were thoughts about how was I going to afford rent and a baby and how was I going to experience labor and birth during a pandemic with restrictions on the number of support persons allowed in the hospital? should I have a homebirth? Can I afford it? And to top it all off with icing on the cake I wasn’t in a fully commited relationship with my child’s father so that was challenging to navigate as well. So I had alot on mt mind and alot going on and When I say It was truly an honor and a blessing to have worked with Joy during my first pregnancy and childbirth journey I am not exaggerating. Joy is an Angel who puts her clients’ needs first. She gave me peace of mind that I needed desperately. She understood my worries and my doubts and my concerns and Joy above all was flexible, generous, and super sweet! She is also honest about the realities and challenges that women, especially women of color like myself, endure while seeking prenatal and postnatal care in this country. Joy had an abundance of information about childbirth and pregnancy which put me at ease. Her childbirth education classes, birthing materials, and of course her support and guidance throughout my pregnancy was phenomenal to say the least. I felt more prepared mentality and emotionally to have my baby because I understood from Joy what was happening with my body and all the changes it will go through. I honestly dont know how I would have had the strength to make it this far without Joy’s support. She is knowledgeable about birth work and can easily convey the most complex of changes and processes that a woman’s body can experience during pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum. I love Joy! She is amazing& I’m happy to know her.

Happy International Doulas Week!!! With the recommendation of Teresa JH, I decided to hire a doula. After lots of thought and consideration, Reggie Shaw and I decided to hire the amazing Joy Dean. Although I didn’t have the delivery I ”planned, ” Joy was there every step of the way pre and post-natal. I don’t just consider Joy my doula she is an adored friend! Much appreciation to all the doulas out there especially those fighting to support women during COVID-19. Joy, thank you for all your love and support ❤️ Mila, Reggie, and I.

Joy is amazing!! She joined my birth team late in my pregnancy and she just jumped right in and helped us with the things we weren’t prepared for. She was very attentive, always willing, and wanting to help. I couldn’t imagine having the amazingly painful lol unmedicated birth without Joy being there. She believed in me when I was ready to quit and I appreciate that more than she knows!! Thank you so much Joy! The Jackson ❤️ you!!.

So I didn’t actually get to have the pleasure of having Joy as my doula. I started (for a 2nd time during this pregnancy) looking into doulas towards the tail end of my pregnancy. And my baby girl came early (the day before Joy and I were scheduled to meet).
What I can say is that based on all of our conversations and the recordings she’s posted on her page (I watched a few of them and I believe she may have sent me one that I watched also), I know for sure that she was going to be the perfect doula. She’s very responsive, knowledgeable, funny, personable, and just down to earth. I honestly thought that we’d end up the best of friends even after birth. She just seems that cool.
And as extra words of advice, don’t let anyone convince you that you don’t need a doula. EVERYONE NEEDS A DOULA! Doulas need doulas!!
It doesn’t matter if hubs, and your mom, and closes girlfriend or sister, will be present while you are giving birth. None of them carry the training, and skill of a doula. They just aren’t qualified. I don’t care how much they love you and want to be there to assist. I promise their level of assistance won’t come close to that of a doula.
So to sum things up, I’d totally recommend Joy to any woman considering a doula. I believe she’s perfect. ❤️
